TERMS OF SERVICE
The agreement between you and GeoClip. Plain language where we can, formal language where we have to.
Effective 2026-05-12
Quick summary
- GeoClip lets you build maps from federal open data and publish them. Free tier is free; Pro is $9/month or $90/year.
- You can cancel any time from the Stripe portal. Refunds: ask via email; we're reasonable.
- Don't try to break the service or use it for illegal stuff.
- The data comes from federal sources — we don't guarantee its accuracy.
- Service is provided "as is." Our liability is capped at what you paid us in the last 12 months.
1. About these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of GeoClip, operated by Nikki Griffin as a sole proprietor in the United States ("we," "us," "our"). By creating an account, using the service, or making a payment, you agree to these Terms.
2. The service
GeoClip is a web tool that lets you:
- Browse a curated catalog of map templates
- Select a geographic area, pick data layers, customize colors
- Publish a hosted, embeddable map at
geoclip.xyz/m/<token> - Optionally, on the Pro tier, download the underlying GIS files (GeoJSON, Shapefile, GeoPackage) and use natural-language AI compose
We may add, remove, or change features. We aim not to break paid features without notice; if we ever sunset a Pro feature you depend on, we'll email you in advance.
3. Eligibility & account
- You must be at least 13 years old to use GeoClip. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you must have your parent or guardian's permission.
- You're responsible for keeping your sign-in email secure. We use magic-link sign-in — anyone with access to your email can sign in as you.
- One account per person. Don't use someone else's email or impersonate anyone.
- You must provide a real, working email address. We may suspend accounts using disposable or fraudulent emails.
4. Free tier & Pro subscription
Free
- $0, no credit card required.
- Up to 2 active published maps at a time.
- Selection area capped at ~25 square miles per map.
- Published maps include a "Made with GeoClip" mark linking back to
geoclip.xyz. The mark stays on the hosted version of your map as long as you're on the Free tier. - Unlimited drafts.
Pro — $9 / month or $90 / year
- Unlimited published maps; selection area capped at roughly one US state per map.
- The "Made with GeoClip" mark is removed from your hosted maps.
- File downloads: GeoJSON, ESRI Shapefile, GeoPackage.
- AI compose, choropleth gradients, per-layer style overrides.
- Billed by Stripe. Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period until canceled.
- Cancel any time from
/account("Manage billing") — Stripe handles the cancellation. Your Pro features remain active until the end of the current billing period.
Refunds
We don't fight reasonable refund requests. If you signed up by mistake, the service was unusable when you needed it, or you're unhappy within the first 30 days, email support@geoclip.xyz and we'll process a refund. Refunds for subscriptions older than 30 days are at our discretion. Stripe processing fees are non-refundable on our side but the user-facing refund is for the full subscription amount.
Downgrade behavior
If you cancel Pro, your existing published maps stay public — the "Made with GeoClip" watermark is reinstated on the next render. Previously-downloaded files stay yours. New downloads stop. New publishing falls under the Free-tier limits.
5. Your content
- You retain ownership of the maps you create — the selection geometry, layer choices, colors, titles. We don't claim copyright in your maps.
- You grant us a non-exclusive license to host your map, render it on our servers, and serve it from
geoclip.xyz/m/<token>for as long as it's published. - You're responsible for not publishing maps that violate someone else's rights, depict illegal activity, or include offensive titles. We may take down maps that violate these Terms.
6. Federal open data
The underlying geographic data comes from public U.S. federal sources (TIGER, Census ACS, USGS, EPA, FEMA, HUD, FCC, NOAA, and OpenStreetMap-derived datasets) and is provided "as is" without warranty of accuracy or completeness. We don't verify that every road segment is current, every flood zone is correctly drawn, or every demographic figure is the latest. Don't use GeoClip output as the sole basis for any professional, legal, financial, or safety-critical decision — verify against authoritative sources for those.
7. Prohibited uses
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically extract data from the service except via features we expose for that purpose
- Resell, sublicense, or re-host the underlying datasets as if they were yours (you may use your maps commercially — that's the point — but the catalog itself isn't yours to resell)
- Attempt to bypass authentication, rate limits, or paywalls
- Use the service to harass, threaten, defame, or violate the rights of others
- Upload illegal content, generate maps designed to facilitate illegal activity (e.g. doxxing maps), or use the service in ways that violate sanctions laws
- Use automated systems (bots, scripts) in ways that overload the service or evade our rate limits
8. Termination
You can delete your account at any time by emailing support@geoclip.xyz — we'll remove your account, drafts, published maps, and Stripe customer record within 30 days, per our Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, especially repeated abuse of rate limits, fraudulent payment attempts, or use of the service for illegal purposes. For material violations we'll give notice when reasonable; for emergencies (active fraud, security incidents) we may act first and notify after.
9. Disclaimers
The service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We disclaim all warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, and any warranty arising from course of dealing or usage of trade. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the underlying data will be accurate or current.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, GeoClip and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising out of or related to your use of the service — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total cumulative liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to the service is capped at the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months immediately preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars ($100).
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless GeoClip and its operator from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of (a) your use of the service in violation of these Terms, (b) content you publish through the service, or (c) your violation of any third-party right.
12. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York. You consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The Effective date at the top reflects the most recent revision. For material changes, we'll send a notice to your account email at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Continued use of the service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
14. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the service.
- Severability. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest stay in effect.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of that right.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a sale, merger, or reorganization of the business.
- Force majeure. Neither party is liable for failure to perform due to events beyond reasonable control (network outages, natural disasters, etc.).
